Simec, transporters of bulk steel have become the first port-based member to join ECO Stars in Newport.

Simec have a fleet of 6×2 Artics which are all Euro VI’s. Each one received a well deserved high rating of 4 stars.

The business has fuel efficiency at the heart of its operations and is now working to ‘fine tune’ it’s working practices to drive down fuel consumption even further. Simec became members when David Price joined the team from another Newport ECO Stars member, seeing the benefits for himself.

Simec’s Transport Manager, Jon Sutton, seen with one of their newest trucks completed with rolling resistance tyres and full telematics, said

“We are delighted to have been awarded 4 Stars on joining the scheme in Newport and look forward to implementing the improvements the scheme advised us to take up. We take our impact on the local area very seriously and are proud to be doing our part to not only be more environmentally orientated, but to present the industry in a positive light here in Newport”
